Ingredients:
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup of Halvana Tuscana Simmering Sauce (2 people per cup)
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
Salt and black pepper, to taste
4 cups vegetable or chicken broth
4 cups stale bread, torn into small pieces
Fresh basil, for garnish
Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
Instructions:
chopped onion and garlic, sauté until softened.
Pour Halvana’s Toscana Simmering Sauce and stir. Add red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper. Cook for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Pour in the vegetable or chicken broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. Let it cook for an additional 10-15 minutes.
Add the torn bread to the pot and stir well. Let the soup simmer for another 10-15 minutes, or until the bread has absorbed the flavors and the soup has thickened.
Adjust the seasoning if needed. If the soup is too thick, you can add more broth or water to reach your desired consistency.
Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil and a generous sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.
